Performance testing of power plant turbines

Product introduction

A gas turbine is a complex system that requires continuous evaluation for optimal performance. Alongside all considerations, performance testing with calibrated sensors is one of the most important steps for assessing the overall condition of the gas turbine. In this test, the performance parameters of the engine under tested conditions are corrected to ISO conditions, and the degree of deviation of the engine from the optimal state is determined. Additionally, parameters such as the inlet temperature to the turbine and the airflow rate of the compressor are calculated based on the available sensors. Using the results of the performance test, it is possible to recover some of the performance loss of the unit by adjusting the control logic coefficients without damaging the engine’s lifespan. The performance test report presents corrected values for power, thermal efficiency, exhaust temperature, and corrected output flow rate of the engine using correction charts.

The basis of the test

  • The main basis for performance testing is the latest version of the following standards:

    ASME-PTC22

    ISO2314

    ISO5167

    Other standards as needed

Steps before and during performance testing

  • Calibration of existing engine sensors

Installation of additional sensors to increase accuracy
Use of high-precision fuel flow meters
Receive gas and diesel fuel samples
Test in all modes agreed with the employer

Functional test outputs

    • Comprehensive performance test report for each unit
      Calculation of test result uncertainty
Declaration of corrected performance parameters using correction charts
